Be sure to make your way over to the Garfield Hotel and Grille in Northampton this Saturday, April 9th for the We Rock for Autism benefit show. This concert will feature 4 top area acts and all proceeds will go directly to the Lehigh Valley chapter of Autism Speaks.
It is currently estimated that autism effects 1 in every 110 children in America, a number which is staggering to consider. Having known individuals with children on the autism spectrum, I can tell you that it is extremely challenging at times raising a child who is living with autism and it impacts the entire family. With proper treatment and therapy autism can be managed and in some cases more so if the child is at the higher functioning end of the spectrum. That being said, the best we have right now is “management” of autism, groups such as Autism Speaks hope to be able to find a cause, cure and treatment for those on the autism spectrum.
The We Rock benefit concert is being organized by my good friend Matt Metal and will feature:
- Jake Kaligas (recent addition to the lineup replacing Dan & Kevin who unfortunately had to cancel)
- Connie Edinger Trio
- Dina Hall and The Backbeat (featuring Moe Jerant from The Large Flowerheads)
- Friar’s Point Band
On air personality Blake Dannon will be the MC rounding out the evening’s events. Doors open at 6pm and the show will begin at 7pm. Although it is listed as a 21 and over event, children will be allowed entry into the venue as long as they remain with a parent or guardian at all times. Tickets are only $5 (children free of charge) at the door which is an incredible value (only $1.25 per band). There are a lot of events going on this Saturday but I cannot think of anything that comes remotely close to this in value, plus it is for an excellent cause. Hope to see you there.
The Garfield Hotel and Grille is located at: 1750 Main St, Northampton, PA 18067 (610)392-8156
