Tomorrow it’s on! The epic Battle in the Valley hosted by the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls is set to take place this Saturday at the Independence Family Fun Center in Schnecksville, PA. Doors will open to the public at 11:30 am with the first whistle at 12:30pm. This promises to be an entire day of hard hitting Women’s flat track roller derby excitement. Four teams will face off in three bouts with the winners of each of the day’s first two matches competing for bragging rights. First up will be the Pottstown Roller Derby All-Stars squaring off against the host team, the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls Special Vixens Unit followed by a bout between the State College Area Rollers and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Roller Radicals.
As always this is a BYOB event, no glass containers or large coolers will be allowed into the facility (small personal coolers are fine) and personal chairs will be allowed for the comfort of the fans. Food will be available for purchase courtesy of Grumpy’s Bar-B-Que Roadhouse.
This event will test not only the skater’s endurance but that of the two home announcers; Shasty and Philly CheeseSteak. These announcers work hard each bout making sure the fans are informed as well as entertained. They provide commentary and play by play right as the action happens. If you are a new roller derby fan their explanation of the rules is essential for understanding and further enjoying the sport. Please give them a huge round of applause tomorrow and show your appreciation for their efforts. They put in many hours of work and make a difficult job look effortless. Tomorrow they are going to be witty for 3 matches, not an easy task.
Tickets are $12 in advance (try to find a rollergirl today if you want advance tickets) and $15 at the door (children’s tickets are half price). Arrive early at the facility to ensure your seat. This is the biggest event of the season and your second to last chance to catch the action for the year so a sellout is more than likely. A large fan contingent is expected, the guys and gals of the Noise Nation will be in the house leading the cheering section and bringing the noise. Expect several visiting rollergirls in attendance as well cheering on their derby sisters. You don’t want to miss this!
