The Lehigh Valley Rollergirls will be hosting a free open scrimmage bout against the Posttstown Roller Derby Rockstars today (Sunday, February 26) at the Independence Family Fun Center (IFFC) in Schnecksville, PA. This is a perfect opportunity for those interested in or curious about roller derby to check out the sport free of charge. The scrimmage will be conducted exactly like a regular bout with 2 full 30 minute halves. The referees and NSOs (Non-Skating Officials) will be scoring and issuing penalties according to WFTA rules and the rink side announcers will be providing play by play and commentary for your enjoyment.
The scrimmage will commence at around 5:00pm and is free of charge. Doors open at 4:30. Come out and get a preview of the excitement in store for Lehigh Valley roller derby fans in 2012. The facility has plenty of free onsite parking in both the front and the rear of the building.
Please note when you enter the IFFC arena you will see a collection bucket. This year the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls will be traveling over 2100 miles to get to their various bouts. As I have mentioned in prior articles, these women do so at their own personal expense. I am also sure you are aware of the rapidly rising prices at the pump. Last time I purchased gas it was around $3.67 per gallon and is slated to hit the $4 (and beyond?) mark before spring. Roller Derby is a DIY sport and completely self-funded. The ladies do not ride in plush chartered busses or travel via private jet like so many other professional athletes. They travel to their bouts in their own vehicles.
Consider dropping a few dollars into the pot and help keep roller derby a viable sport, it will be greatly appreciated by your fellow fans and especially the team. If you are interested in making a donation at any time to LVRG please email the Treasurer
